So, after this last storm and losing all my food i had stocked up in the fridge and freezer and my snakes being dangerously cold i am giving serious thought to buying a generator to run a few things here at the house. My problem is i dunno much about generators other than how to work on the small engine side of it. What i need to run is a normal refrigerator/freezer and 4 250 watt lights for the snakes and maybe charge up the cell phones and a few lights. I just dont know what size or wattage generator i need or weather it would be better to have a gas or diesel powered one. Does anyone have any ideas on what i need or at least where to start my research ? Also which brands do you like best or even use yourself ?
Thanks Guys
Micky

Id say about any 5,000 watt generator would be good for what your doing. Im not sure about some of the import brands but also not saying you need a Honda or big name brand. TSC and some discount places have them on sale at times but betting right now isn't a time to find one cheap after the storms. This site has a lot of generators to look over and get some specs. www.electricgeneratorsdirect.com/I forgot to mention if your area is bad enough FEMA might pay for most of a new generator. Many in this area got them cheap or near free during an ice storm.

And just to add to Nick's info.......I think a very common output size (found in stores) is a 5000 to 6500 watt size. I have 3 (not sure why). One being 5500 watt. One 3000 watt (wheel horse) and one 1350 watt (for camping)
